Geneva, NY - The Messiah Falcons Field Hockey team wrapped up their regular season Saturday afternoon in Geneva, NY when they took on the William Smith Herons. The Falcons allowed an early goal in the third minute, but scored three unanswered to enter conference playoff on a high note.

On the first shot of the game, Herons' midfielder, Erin Miller collected a rebound on the left side of the cage and beat
Carly Day to give the Herons an early 1-0 lead.

After back and forth play for the next seventeen minutes, the Falcons would strike. In the 20th minute to tie the game, the Falcons were awarded a penalty stroke and
Becky Ely capitalized on the opportunity, putting the stroke in the back of the cage, tying the game at 1-1.

10 minutes later the Falcons would go ahead when
Taylor Holt redirected a
Kristin Donohue shot into the back of the net to put the Falcons up 2-1, a lead they would not relinquish.

As the second half began, the Falcons wasted no time getting back on the scoreboard. In the 38th minute, a scramble in front of the goal led to
Moriah Pfautz lifting the ball over the goalie for her eighth goal of the season. The goal gave the Falcons a 3-1 advantage.

The second-half was all Falcons, out shooting the Herons 16-2 in the 35-minute period. For the game the Falcons outshot the Herons 22-7 and held a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.

While the regular season ended this afternoon, the Falcons earned the No. 4 seed in the Commonwealth Championships that begin Wednesday, Nov. 5. The Falcons will travel to No. 1 Arcadia University to take on the Knights in the first round of the Commonwealth Championships. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
