Grantham, PA – The Falcons tamed the Lions of Albright College Tuesday night as they swept the Lions 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-16).
Messiah cruised to a 25-7 first set victory over Albright. The Falcons started fast and never gave the Lions a glimmer of hope. Messiah led 14-5 during the set from going on multiple scoring streaks to start off. They put together their most impressive scoring streak by scoring five points with kills by
Brooke Gallagher,
Jane Underman, and
Taylor Hook. Two attack errors committed by the Lions completed the Falcons scoring streak to go up 19-5 over the Lions.
Messiah led 24-7 when
Kristen Douglas tallied the final kill of the set to give the Falcons the victory. The Falcons compiled a .375 attack percentage compared to the Lions -.086 during the first set of the match.
The second set was another smooth victory for the Falcons as they won 25-12. Messiah jumped out to a huge lead early as they went up 11-1 over Albright.
Jane Underman,
Emily Buckwalter,
Hayley Cowoski, and
Emily Lelah collected kills during the 11-1 run.
The Lions battled back when the Falcons led 19-5 with a six point scoring streak to bring the score to 19-11 in the Falcons favor. Albright would only score once more during the set and a kill by
Alyssa Vorbeck finished the set and gave Messiah the victory.
Albright gave the Falcons a little more competition in the final set, but the Falcons still captured the victory comfortably as they won 25-16. With the set tied 6-6, the Falcons scored four unanswered points with a kill by
Jennifer Rusling, a service ace by
Suzanne Harris, and two attack errors committed by Albright.
Messiah kept building their lead and led 24-16 when
Jennifer Rusling tallied a service ace and gave the Falcons the set and match victory.
Jane Underman and
Kristen Douglas led the Falcons offensively with 10 kills each. The Falcons were led defensively by
Hayley Cowoski who finished with 16 digs for the Falcons.
The victory improves the Falcons to 23-7 overall and 6-2 in the Commonwealth Conference. Messiah currently holds the third seed for the Commonwealth Conference tournament with two games remaining in the regular season.
