Payne's Pair Leads Messiah Over Arcadia

Glenside, PA - Jeremy Payne scored twice and Mike Kovach collected four points to lead No. 1 Messiah over Arcadia on Saturday afternoon. The win pushed Messiah to 17-0-1 this season, and 7-0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference.

Payne tallied in just the sixth minute to put Messiah up early. He took a feed from Kovach and fired from the right side of the box to the far side of the goal. Less than three minutes Kovach doubled the lead, putting through a penalty kick opportunity.

Messiah carried the 2-0 lead to the break, where they had a 13-3 advantage in shots.

In the second-half Payne gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead, this time taking a perfect serve from Kovach and heading it through for his 18th goal of the season. The two assists for Kovach gave him seven on the season, tying him with Payne for second on the team behind Jack Thompson's 10 helpers.

The Falcons finished the game with a 22-5 edge in shots, with just a single offering by Arcadia going on frame. Messiah also finished with an incredible 15-0 edge in corners, a number indicative of the team's strong play in Arcadia's territory.

Aaron Hennigan collected the shutout for the Falcons in his first career start.

Now finished with the regular-season, Messiah will look forward to next week's Commonwealth Tournament. They will host on Thursday as the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of No. 4 Alvernia and No. 5 Lebanon Valley.
