Falcons Escape York with 75-69 Win

York, PA - The Falcons escaped their first road contest of the year with a 75-69 over the York Spartans on Tuesday night. After trailing 56-63, the Falcons ended the game on a 19-6 to claim their fourth straight victory to open the season.

The Falcons got the job done in a back and forth match up that didn't see a team lead by more than seven throughout the entire game. Led by Luke Cable's 14 points, the Falcons had a balanced scoring attack tonight with four players finishing in double figures and two others adding with nine.

The Spartans had the Falcons' number to start the game, holding a lead for the first nine minutes of play. The Falcons took their first lead when David Fernandez-Bravo found Josh Clippinger in the paint who laid it in, putting the Falcons up 17-16.

The two squads would trade points throughout the rest of the half. Across the final 7:32 of play in the first-half the Falcons went just 1-10 from the floor, however they went six of eight from the free throw line to keep them in the game. At the break, the Falcons and Spartans found themselves tied at 32-32.

The first 10 minutes of the second-half were much like the last 10 of the first, a back and forth battle where no team held control for more than a possession or two.  However, the Spartans seemed to take control when they led by seven with just under five minutes left in the game. In under a minute, the Falcons would tie the game thanks to a Neil Murren three, a Murren steal that led to a Luke Cable layup and a layup by David Fernandez-Bravo. This was the start of a 19-6 run that the Falcons would end the game on.

After the seven point burst by the Falcons, the run was highlighted two plays from Zac Hoy. With the game tied, Hoy stepped into a three right in front of the Falcons bench with just under three minutes to play and buried it, putting Messiah up 69-66. Then two minutes later, Hoy then found Geoff Boyle under the basket who put it in giving the Falcons a four point edge.

The Falcons converted their free throws down the stretch and went on to win by a final score of 75-69.

The win improves the Falcons to 4-0 on the young season. After a break for the Thanksgiving holiday the Falcons will be in action on Saturday at home against the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen. Tip off set for 5:00 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium, following the Women's game at 3:00 p.m.
