Gettysburg, PA - The Falcons traveled to Gettysburg College on Wednesday night to take on the Bullets in a non-conference match-up. The Falcons came away with a 71-65 victory over the Bullets, thanks to one of their best shooting performances of the year, hitting 53.1% of their shots from the field and 11 of their 12 free throws.
David Fernandez-Bravo and Luke Cable led the Falcons with 17 points a piece, while Geoff Boyle and Zac Hoy each added 14 points.After a relatively slow first 15 minutes of the game, both teams stepped up the scoring across the final five before the break. With the score tied 17-17 at the 15 minute mark, the Falcons proceeded to go on a 17-10 run to finish the half. Luke Cable hit two threes in the stretch, including one that beat the buzzer and gave Messiah a seven point half time advantage.
After the intermission the Bullets came out firing, eventually taking a six point lead at the mid-point of the half. Gettysburg was carried to that lead by a 5-8 effort from downtown in the first nine minutes of the second-half.
The Falcons weathered the storm before ending the game on a 26-14 run across the final 8:39 to secure the 71-65 victory. The final run for the Falcons was highlighted by sharp-shooting (3-5 from 3), a strong presence in the paint (10 points), and tough defense (4 steals).
The Falcons dominated down low, scoring 36 of their 71 points in the paint, while the Bullets scored only 16 from the paint.
Sean Gordon lead all scorers with 21 points in a losing effort for the Bullets.
With the win the Falcons improve their record to 5-3 on the season and they will next be in action on Saturday in Brubaker Auditorium when Baptist Bible College travels to Grantham. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
