Grantham, PA - Grantham, PA – The Falcons fell to the Fords of Haverford College 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) Saturday night in Hitchcock Arena for their first home loss of the season. The loss dropped the Falcons overall record to 9-3 and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference.
 
The first set was very competitive as both teams went back and forth grabbing the lead. There were four lead changes and the score was tied nine times throughout the set. Tied at sixteen a piece, the Fords went on two three-point runs which ultimately was the deciding factor in Haverford's first set victory as they won the 25-20. Brooke Gallagher tallied ten assists during the first set and had twenty-seven assists for the match.
 
The Falcons came out strong for the second set taking an early 11-6 lead. Multiple scoring streaks from Haverford gave the lead back to the Fords. Haverford's Meg O'Day added the final kill of the set and gave the Fords the second set victory as they won 25-21. O'Day led the Fords with eleven kills for the match. Jane Underman led the Falcons with four kills during the set and finished with a team-high eleven kills for the match.
 
Messiah got off to a slow start in the third set as they trailed 4-0. The Falcons battled back and made the score 9-8 to reclaim the lead. Another scoring streak by Haverford gave the Fords the lead once again and they never gave it back. Errors plagued the Falcons in the final set of the night as they committed ten compared to Haverford's five. The Fords Zoe Wong tallied the final kill of the set and gave Haverford the 25-19 set and match victory.
 
Kristen Douglas performed well offensively and defensively tallying nine kills and eleven digs. The Falcons will next take the court on September 24th against Stevenson University in Grantham, PA for their third conference match of the season.
