Falcons Comeback, Win 3-2 Over Eagles

Fredericksburg, VA - The Falcons came back from a 2-1 halftime deficit to beat the Mary Washington Eagles 3-2 in Fredericksburg, Va. Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons outshot the Eagles 17-5 on the day but needed two second-half goals to get the win.

Becky Ely scored twice for the Falcons and Carissa Gehman added her team leading 13th in the victory.

The first eight minutes of the game was evenly played with the neither the Falcons or Eagles getting off a shot. The first shot of the game would result in the first goal of the game when Mary Washington's Christine Loehr would find the back of the cage, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

The Falcons would have chances to even the score over the next 12 minutes but the Eagles' goalie Megan McLaughlin would save shots from Moriah Pfautz and Lindsay Bower. The Falcons would connect after Becky Ely was awarded a penalty stroke in the 21st minute. Ely made the penalty stoke to tie the game at one apiece.

Just over five minutes later the Eagles would go up 2-1, when Haley Kane beat Carly Day in the 27th minute.

Despite being outshot 8-4 and only using one-substitution in the half, the Eagles held a one-goal lead over the Falcons at the half.

The Falcons would come out firing to begin the second half. In the 44th minute, and on the first shot of the half, Carissa Gehman tied the game with her team-leading 13th goal of the season.

After the Falcons tied the game early in the second half, they dominated play for the remainder of the game. They would outshoot the Eagles 8-1 over the final 26 minutes.

While the Falcons put pressure on the Eagles throughout the entire second half, they wouldn't strike again until the 58th minute when Becky Ely found the back of the cage for the game winning goal. The goal gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead.

The Eagles and Falcons would trade shots in the final 12 minutes, but neither would find the back of the net and the Falcons would hold on for the 3-2 victory.

The game winner was Ely's third goal in the last two games. With the win the Faclons move to 6-4 on the year and will next take the field on Saturday, Oct. 4th in Reading, PA at 2:00 p.m. when they face the Alvernia Crusaders.
