Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Falcons Ride Big Run to Victory, 61-45

Baltimore, MD - The first 18 minutes of tonight's game saw two evenly matched teams battle for control. With seven ties and eight lead changes neither the Falcons nor Blue Jays could take control of the game.

That all changed when Sienna Wisse stepped to the free-throw line with exactly two minutes left in the first-half. With the Falcons trailing 25-24, Wisse hit both of her free throws to put the Falcons up one – a lead the Falcons would hold for the remainder of the game.

Wisse's free throws started a 25-1 run that covered over twelve minutes of game time. The run extended well into the second-half, as Johns Hopkins scored their first field goal of the half with under ten minutes to play. During the run, the Falcons forced nine turnovers – including six steals – while the Blue Jays went 0-8 from the field and just 1-6 from the free-throw line.

"Our defense the last 28 minutes was suffocating and the effort and passion we showed was outstanding," said Messiah coach Mike Miller. "We played solid in the first-half, but came out with more urgency in the second-half. Gillian was fantastic and
Dominique got us going and did a great job throughout the game."

Dominique Seamon's high energy didn't show up in the box score, but on the offensive end the Falcons had six different players score during the big run. Gillian Glackin led the charge, scoring 14 of her game-high 18 points during the stretch. Glackin also collected 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double on the season and second in as many games. Hannah Brown scored three points in the run while Jocelyn Chavous, Jen Fairbanks, Kaitlyn Hoff, and Sienna Wisse all netted two points each.

When the dust settled, the Falcons led by 23 with 9:58 remaining in the game. They held a double-digit cushion for the remainder of the night as they cruised to a 16-point victory, 61-45.

With the win the Falcons improved to 7-6 on the season and are a perfect 2-0 since the calendar flipped to 2015. The Falcons will next take the court at Stevenson University on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. to begin a 12-game stretch against conference opponents to end the regular season.
