Sloppy Play Plagues Falcons Against Mustangs

Owings Mills, MD - The Falcons traveled to Stevenson to take on the Commonwealth leading Mustangs. The story of the game for the Falcons was their inability to hold on to the ball. Messiah committed 36 turnovers in the game – marking the first time that the Falcons had committed 30-plus turnovers in a single game in over 13 seasons*.

The Falcons could not break the multitude of presses that the Mustangs featured throughout the game that lead to 24 points off Falcon turnovers for Stevenson.

The Falcons' turnover struggles began early, In the first nine minutes the Falcons had already turned the ball over 12 times. However, the Falcons made up for their poor ball control with exceptional shooting early, making their first six shots. The Falcons held a 16-13 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. With just over seven minutes left in the half, the Mustangs used a 5-0 run to take a three-point lead.

At the half the Mustangs held a four-point advantage, leading the Falcons 30-26.

The second-half began slowly for the Falcons. The Mustangs began the half on a 10-2 run to open up a 12-point cushion, however the Falcons broke the run and started their comeback when Deanna Eyerkuss hit a 15-foot jumper with 12:10 remaining. Using a 16-7 run the Falcons cut the Mustang lead to as few as five, but that would be as close as the Falcons would get. The Mustangs hit free throws down the stretch to win by a final of 57-48.

Gillian Glackin led the way for the Falcons, recording her third straight double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Mustangs were paced by Ty Bender (13 points, 9 steals) and Sara Tarbert (15 points, 8 rebounds).

The loss moves the Falcons to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference. They next take the floor on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Reading, P.a. to take on the Albright Lions beginning at 4 p.m.
