Kristen Douglas collected 10 kills and
Brooke Gallagher dished out 30 assists to lead a balanced attack for Messiah College as the Falcons won in straight sets of Arcadia University, 3-0. Douglas picked up six aces and
Hannah Baumer grabbed nine kills of her own in the win.
The Falcons cruised to a 25-16 first set victory over the Knights. Messiah edged Arcadia in kills (18-6), attack percentage (.429-.333), but committed more erros (6-0).
The Falcons used a pair of three point scoring streaks and a four point scoring streak to separate themselves from the Knights. Leading 24-16, the Falcons tallied the final point of the set off a kill by
Brooke Gallagher.
The second set was similar to the first with the Falcons soaring to a 25-16 victory. Messiah topped Arcadia in kills (11-4), attack percentage (.280-.167), but committed an even amount of errors (4-4).
The Falcons wasted little time to pull away from the Knights by completing a six point scoring streak to start the set. The streak was formed by two kills from
Hannah Baumer, a service ace by
Jane Underman, and three errors committed by the Knights.
Messiah led 23-16, when a kill from
Alyssa Vorbeck and a service ace from
Jane Underman sealed the second set victory.
Messiah dominated the third and final set of the match as they earned a 25-6 victory over Arcadia. The Falcons dictated play by topping the Knights in kills (12-4), compiling an outstanding .524 attack percentage compared to Arcadia's -.087, and committing fewer errors (1-6).
Messiah created a pair of seven point scoring streaks and four unanswered points to capture the set and match victory.
The decision pushed the Falcons to a record of 20-2, including 5-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. Messiah next plays tomorrow when they travel to Elizabethtown for a showdown with the Blue Jays at 7:00 p.m. Tomorrow's game will be played at Elizabethtown High School.
