Falcons Sweep Blue Jays For Fifth Straight Victory

Elizabethtown, PA - The Falcons of Messiah College swept the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) for their fifth straight victory. Messiah improved to 21-2 after tonight's victory.

Messiah edged Elizabethtown in kills (15-7), accumulated a .323 attack percentage compared to the Blue Jay's -.032, and committed fewer errors (5-8) to take the first set 25-19.
 
The Falcons led the Blue Jays 18-16 when they strung together four unanswered points to pull away by a 22-16 score. The scoring streak was formed by a kill from Taylor Hook, a kill by Brooke Gallagher, and two attack errors committed by Elizabethtown. .
 
Jane Underman delivered an electrifying kill to tally the set winning point for the Falcons.
 
During the second set the Falcons topped the Blue Jays in kills (12-8), attack percentage (.233-.000), and committed fewer errors (5-8) to capture the 25-17 victory.
 
A pivotal moment during the set was when Messiah put together a four point scoring streak and evened the score at ten a piece. The scoring streak was created by a kill by Jane Underman, a kill from Alyssa Vorbeck, and two attack errors committed by Elizabethtown.
 
Messiah continued to separate themselves from Elizabethtown and scored three of the final four points to earn the victory. Once again, Jane Underman tallied the set winning point for the Falcons from a kill.
 
Messiah was victorious in the third and final set of the match by defeating Elizabethtown 25-17. The Falcons edged the Blue Jays in kills (12-10), committed fewer errors (3-11) and compiled a .209 attack percentage compared to the Blue Jays -.019.
 
Messiah had a comfortable 18-12 lead when Elizabethtown rallied with four unanswered points to narrow the score to 18-16. The Falcons responded with a five point scoring streak give themselves a commanding 23-16 lead. The scoring streak was formed by two kills from Kristen Douglas, a kill by Jane Underman, and two attack errors committed by Elizabethtown.
 
Jane Underman tallied the match winning point from a kill for her third set winning kill of the match. In addition, Underman led the Falcons offensively with 15 kills. Messiah had strong defensive performances from Brooke Gallagher (13 digs) and Taylor Hook (five blocks).
 
Messiah will be back in action this Saturday when they host Baruch College at 1:00 p.m.
