Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Falcons of Messiah College swept the Cougars of Misericordia University 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23) and the Colonels of Wilkes University 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17) in MAC Crossover play. Messiah improved to 15-1 with the two victories and will be back in action Wednesday evening when they travel to Lycoming College to take on the Warriors at 7:00 p.m.
Match One: Misericordia University 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23)Messiah cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23) sweep over the Cougars of Misericordia University in their first match of the MAC Crossover.
The Falcons overpowered the Cougars in the first set with a decisive 25-13 victory. Messiah led the Cougars in kills (13-7), attack percentage (.306-.057), and committed less errors (2-5) throughout the first set of play.
Messiah continued their dominance in the second set with a 25-14 victory. The Falcons led the Cougars in kills (16-4), attack percentage (.244-.065), but committed triple the amount of errors compared to the Cougars (6-2).
Unlike the first and second sets, the third set came down to wire with the Falcons prevailing with a 25-23 score. Once again, the Falcons led the Cougars in kills (11-9), attack percentage (.121-.051), and committed the same amount of errors as the Cougars (7-7).
The Falcons were led offensively by
Jane Underman who collected 13 kills and
Brooke Gallagher who dished out 18 assists.
Emily Zellers and
Suzanne Harris laid down two service aces each.
Defensively, Messiah had solid performances from
Ellen Musselman (three blocks) and
Kristen Douglas (14 digs).
Match Two: Wilkes University 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17)Messiah was victorious in their second and final match of the MAC Crossover with a comfortable 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17) sweep over the Colonels of Wilkes University.
The Falcons dominated the Colonels in the first set of play with a 25-12 victory. Messiah led the Colonels in kills (16-7), attack percentage (.536-.074), and committed fewer errors (1-5).
Messiah rode their momentum from the first set into the second and captured a 25-16 victory. The Falcons led the Colonels in kills (17-4), attack percentage (.300--.071), and committed one fewer error (5-6).
The Falcons took the third and final set of the match over Wilkes by a 25-17 score. Messiah led Wilkes in kills (13-7), attack percentage (.231-.125), but committed more errors (4-2) than the Colonels.
The Falcons were led offensively by
Jane Underman (15 kills and two service aces) and
Brooke Gallagher (37 assists). Defensively, Messiah had strong performances by
Alyssa Vorbeck (two blocks) and
Emily Zellers (21 digs).
