Grantham, PA –
Moriah Pfautz scored three goals as the Falcons defeated the Gettysburg Bullets 6-3 on Anderson Field. In addition to Pfautz's three tallies,
Carissa Gehman,
Taylor Holt, and
Casie Stief each added a goal.
The Falcons dominated from start to finish out shooting the Bullets 25-3 on the game. While the Bullets only mustered three shots they made the most of their opprotunities, scoring on two of their three attempts.
Messiah took a lead just under 11 minutes into the game.
Taylor Holt carried the ball into the circle on a break away down the left side before flicking a pass to
Moriah Pfautz. Pfautz hammered home the shot and Messiah took a 1-0 lead on just their second shot of the game.
The Falcons continued to pressure with four shots across the next nine minutes. Messiah connected for its second goal of the game at the 19:36 mark.
Carissa Gehman brought the ball from the right side of the circle into traffic before finding
Emily Rubright. Rubright found
Taylor Holt in congestion, Holt beat the Bullets' keeper giving Messiah a 2-0 lead.
The Bullets pulled to within one when Tori Sankey put back a rebound at the 31-minute mark.
With under a minute left
Emily Schillinger looked to double the Falcons' lead. Unfortunately her shot was blocked from right in front of the cage. The ball ricocheted to the stick of Pfutz who tipped it in amongst traffic in front of the cage. Pfautz's goal came with just 22 seconds left in the half and the Falcons carried that momentum into the half.
Less than 12 minutes after the break, Pfautz connected for her third goal of the game. Holt carried the ball down the left side and sent a ball into the circle. Pfautz got a stick on it and redirected it into the back of the cage.
Carissa Gehman extended the Falcons' lead to 5-1 when she added her eighth goal of the season in the 55th minute. Gehman brought the ball from the right side of the circle toward the top before ripping a shot to the left side of the cage.
In the 60th minute,
Casie Stief added the Falcons' final goal when she took a touch around the goalie and put a shot in the back of the cage.
The Bullets scored a goal in the 67th minute off a penalty corner, but it was too little too late as the Falcons went on for the 6-2 victory.
Pfautz's hat trick was Messiah's first this season. Gehman collected the Falcons last three-goal game, which oddly enough came against Gettysburg last year on Oct. 8.
With the win the Falcons move to 7-4 and they will next take the field on Saturday when they travel to Arcadia to take on the Knights at 11 a.m.
