Frederick, MD - The Messiah Falcons ended their 2014-15 season by falling to the Hood Blazers by a final score of 74-68. The Falcons trailed by as many as 20 points in the second-half, but rallied to pull within three before falling by six.
With the loss the Falcons end their season with an overall record of 13-11 and 6-10 in the conference.
In the early going, the Falcons hung tough with the Blazers, trailing by just one-point eight minutes into the contest. Three's from
Zac Hoy and
Luke Cable opened the scoring for Messiah and highlighted the Falcons first-half scoring.
However with 11:39 left in the first-half, James Brown made three-point play that started 9:14 of dominance for the Blazers. In that stretch, Hood outscored the Falcons 26-9. While the Falcons scored the last two points of the first-half, they trailed 39-21 heading into the break.
In the second-half the Falcons came out as a completely different team. In the first two minutes of the half the Falcons went on a 7-2 run and held the momentum. The Falcons continued to chip away, eventually cutting the Blazer lead to as few as eight after
Jimmy Brackett made a layup with 13:25 left in the game. The Blazers would counter with an 8-0 run to push the lead back to 16.
Exactly half way through the second-half and with the Falcons trailing by 16,
David Fernandez-Bravo drove down the right side of the lane and made a layup that sparked a 14-1 Falcons' run. The run lasted 6:07 and brought the Falcons to within three points of the Blazers.
However, with less than three minutes to play the Blazers used a 9-2 run to put the game out of reach for the Falcons. While the Falcons would score the final five points to cut the deficient to six, the Blazers would come away with the 74-68 win and sweep the season series
Micah Brown led the Falcons with 16 points.
Jimmy Brackett (13) and
David Fernandez-Bravo (10) joined Brown in double-digits for the Falcons in the season finale.
