Falcons Tame Blazers In Conference Play

Frederick, MD - The Falcons of Messiah College tamed the Blazers of Hood College on a sunny spring day by a score of 9-2. Messiah clicked offensively with eight different goal scorers, and played stingy defense allowing only two goals.

The first quarter started slow for both teams offensively until the Blazers found the back of the net with a goal by Tai Foster with 5:50 remaining in the quarter. Three minutes later Messiah found their first score with a goal from Andrew Harris. The goal was Harris's fourth of the season.

The Falcons added two more goals to end the first quarter with scores from Ryan Van Bochoven and Cody Rogers to take a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter. Van Bochoven scored from an assist from Drew Pagenkopf while Cody Rogers cleared the ball from the defensive to offensive end for his second goal of the season.

Messiah began the second quarter with their fourth unanswered goal from Drew Pagenkopf. Matthew Franked was credited with the assist.

Next, the Blazers slowed the Falcons momentum with a goal from Gio San Fillipo with 5:25 remaining in the half. Shortly after the Hood goal, Messiah's Blake Knobloch scored an unassisted goal and his 11th of the season to put the Falcons up 5-2 to end the first half.

The third quarter of play saw great defensive play from both squads. Messiah and Hood were held scoreless in the third quarter and the Falcons took a 5-2 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Messiah extended their lead just 3:15 into the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal from Tyler Goglio. The score stretched the Falcons lead to 6-2. Three minutes later, Messiah added another goal by Drew Pagenkopf. The goal was Pagenkopf's second of the game.

The Falcons added two more insurance goals with unassisted scores from Isaac Zorn and Justin Bradley for the 9-2 victory.

Statistically, the Falcons edged the Blazers in shots on goal (21-16), ground balls (35-28), and turned the ball over less (12-24).
