Grantham, PA - The Falcons of Messiah College scored a season high 13 goals as they defeated the Warriors of Lycoming College 13-6 on a cold and dreary day. Messiah jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held a 7-2 lead heading into halftime. The Falcons dominated the fourth quarter by outscoring the Warriors 3-1 to collect the victory and improved to 7-3 overall, and 2-1 in the Commonwealth.
Messiah came out hot in the first quarter by scoring six unanswered goals by five different Falcons.
Matthew Franken began the scoring streak with an unassisted goal and gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Drew Pagenkopf dodged and found
Justin Bradley who buried the goal with a bounce shot. Three minutes later
Tyler Goglio fed
Ryan Van Bochoven for the 3-0 lead. Just eight seconds later Goglio found Van Bochoven for another score and Messiah led 4-0.
The Falcons kept the scoring streak going when
Justin Bradley dodged and found
Jordan Smith who finished with an excellent bounce shot. The final goal of the six-goal scoring streak was executed by an assist from
Jordan Smith and finished by
Tyler Goglio.
With time running out in the first quarter, the Warriors' Lee Pappas found the back of the net with zero second remaining and gave Lycoming their first goal of the game. Lycoming struck again to begin the second quarter with a goal by Mike Cooper.
Just when the Warriors started to gain some momentum, Messiah's
Blake Knobloch ripped a shot for a goal and gave the Falcons a 7-2 lead heading into halftime.
Both teams scored three goals throughout the third quarter and headed into the fourth quarter with the score at 10-5 in the Falcons favor. Lycoming's Jake Wanamaker struck first in the third quarter and Messiah's
Andrew Harris scored the final goal in the quarter.
The Falcons crushed and hopes of a comeback from Lycoming by scoring three straight goals in the fourth quarter.
Blake Knobloch began the three-goal streak with an unassisted snipe into the back of the net.
The next two goals for the Falcons came on man-up opportunities. The first man-up possession saw
Tyler Goglio feed
Ryan Van Bochoven for the score and extended Messiah's lead to 12-5.
During the second man-up possession Goglio created another assist by feeding
Blake Knobloch for his third goal of the game.
Statistically, the Falcons outshot the Warriors (40-20), committed less turnovers (14-22), gathered more ground balls (39-24), and dominated the face-offs (13-7).
Messiah will next play this Saturday when they travel to Lebanon Valley to take on the Dutchmen in a Commonwealth showdown.
