Falcons Sweep Battlefield Classic

XML Box Score 1 | XML Box Score 2 | XML Box Score 3 | XML Box Score 4 Gettysburg, PA - The Falcons swept a four-game showing at the Battlefield Classic this weekend, as they were pushed to five sets in just one of the four matches.

**Statistics are yet to reported for a few of these matches.

Match One: Penn St. Harrisburg 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-17)
Messiah used a complete team effort in their first victory of the tournament as every Falcon played in the game.

Messiah played aggressive offensively, particuarly with their serves. A notable performance in the Falcons victory over Penn St. Harrisburg was Lauren Ciccotello who didn't commit any hitting errors.

Messiah will play their second game of the Battlefield Classic tonight at 7:00 p.m. against host Gettysburg College.

Match Two: Gettysburg College 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22)
The Falcons and Bullets traded points throughout first the set but the Falcons never gave up the lead. Neither team could put together more than a four-point scoring streak.
 
The Falcons pulled away in the first set by stringing together two four-point streak of the set. The Bullets committed three attack errors during the Falcons' scoring streak and Kristen Douglas perfected a kill.
 
The second four-point scoring streak for the Falcons' was put together during the final four points of the set. Gettysburg continued to struggle with errors and committed three while Brooke Gallagher tallied the final point off a kill.
 
The second set of was similar to the first with both teams never establishing their dominance. Unlike the first set, the Bullets pulled away at the end and captured the victory 25-20.
 
With the score tied at 20, the Bullets scored five-straight points and ended the set. Messiah committed five errors out of the final five points that the Bullets scored to seal the second set. Jane Underman played exceptionally well in the second and tallied eight kills.
 
The theme of playing a tough, close set continued into the third set of play. The Falcons held a comfortable 19-14 lead when the Bullets rallied for five consecutive points and trailed Messiah 19-18.
 
Messiah led 23-20 when a service error from Gettysburg and kills from Jane Underman and Taylor Hook sealed the third set victory for Messiah.
 
The fourth set came down to the wire between the Falcons and Bullets. With the score tied at 22, Messiah scored the final three points off of an attack error from the Bullets and kills from Kristen Douglas and Brooke Gallagher.
 
Messiah improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Battlefield Classic. The Falcons will next play tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. against McDaniel College and 12:00 p.m. against Penn St. Altoona to round out the Gettysburg Classic.

Match Three: McDaniel College (22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 31-29)
An intense fourth set went to Messiah and the Falcons stayed undeated in the Classic. The Falcons will face Penn State Altoona in their final match this afternoon.

Match Four: Penn State Altonna (25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 22-25, 15-6)
The Falcons lost momentum and nearly lost their match with PSU Altoona before roared back to take a deciding fifth set.
