Falcons' Fast Start Supports Dominate Road Win

Frederick, MD – Messiah College scored 43 points in the first two quarters and never looked back in a dominating 80-42 win at Hood College on Wednesday night. Alecia Rohrer scored 18 points to lead eight different scorers, with Jen Fairbanks adding 13 points. Gillian Glackin added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The win moved Messiah's win streak to seven games and kept them atop the MAC Commonwealth with a 5-1 record. Messiah is now 11-4 overall.

Messiah led from the very beginning when they took a 9-3 lead, with Jen Fairbanks scoring six of those early points. The advantage only grew when Alecia Rohrer checked into the game moments later and scored eight-straight points to put the Falcons up 17-7. Rohrer went on to finish the quarter with 10 points to help Messiah to a 23-12 lead after 10 minutes.

In the second quarter Gillian Glackin and Fairbanks combined for seven quick points, including a three-pointer by Fairbanks to push the lead to 30-12. A three-pointer by Libby Timmer with just over 30 seconds to play gave Messiah a 43-18 lead that they took into the break.

Messiah's dominant first-half included 17 points of Hood turnovers, an 18-8 advantage in the paint, and a 21-6 edge in bench points.

In the third quarter Messiah pushed their lead to 30 points for the first time when Dominique Seamon hit a three-pointer with 4:26 to play. The Falcons led by as many as 34 points (59-25) when Rohrer put through another basket in the paint. In the fourth quarter the Falcons dropped below a 30-point lead only twice en route to the 80-42 win.

The 80 points set a new season-high for the Falcons, seven more than their season-opening 73 points against Susquehanna.

Fourteen different Falcons scored on the evening and, as mentioned Glackin fell a point shy of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Alecia Rohrer added five blocks to her 18 points while Fairbanks and Maci Thornton each collected three steals.

Libby Timmer also had a great night with seven points and six assists, and Kaitlyn Hoff added five assists.

Messiah will look to keep the win streak going this Saturday when they host Widener University at 3:00 p.m.
