Reading, PA - The Falcons of Messiah College dropped their MAC Commonwealth opener to the Lions of Albright College by a 9-5 final. Messiah took an early lead with back-to-back goals from
Luke Hall. During the end of the second quarter and beginning of the third quarter, Albright tallied four straight goals which proved to be the difference in the matchup.
Trey Hanshew and
Luke Hall led Falcon scorers with two goals each.
After
Luke Hall put the Falcons ahead 2-0, Albright got on the board with their first score from Cam Cetrone. The Falcons responded by taking advantage of a man up opportunity with a goal by
Trey Hanshew.
Next, the Lions separated themselves from the Falcons by adding four straight goals from James Egleston (2), Andrew Potter, and Cam Cetrone. Trailing 5-3,
Trey Hanshew slowed Albright's momentum with his second goal of the game.
Albright quickly answered with back-to-back scores from Cam Cetrone and Andrew Potter and took a 7-4 lead.
Tyler Goglio added Messiah's final and lone goal in the fourth quarter to bring themselves with two goals.
However, Albright buckled down on the defense and tallied the final two goals of the game from Andrew Potter and Cam Cetrone.
Statistically, Albright surpassed Messiah in shots (31-30), shots on goal (18-14), groundballs (27-22), face offs (9-8), and committed fewer turnovers (10-16).
Messiah falls to 4-5 after the defeat and will be back in action on Apr. 6 when they travel to Lycoming to take on the Warriors at 3:30 p.m.
