Moments that Mattered
Messiah was held without a shot for the first 10 minutes of the match, until
Brooke Firestone sent an attempt to the far post in the 11th minute. Stevenson keeper Keegan Caffrey was there for her first of 19 saves on the night.
The match remained scoreless until the the 26th minute, when
Sunny Gelnovatch connected for her sixth goal of the season off a corner kick. The corner was loose in the box before
Barb Foster tapped a pass to Gelnovatch, who sent a quick strike into the back of the net for the first tally of the match.
Messiah continued to pepper Keegan between the pipes, but the score remained 1-0 into the second-half. It was Gelnovatch that started the Falcons' second scoring play, forcing a turnover in the midfield. A through ball on the ground found a streaking
Brooke Firestone and a one-time touch shot looked to surprise Caffrey and gave the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.
Maddie Kohl capped off the victory for Messiah with a 25-yard strike from well outside the box in the 83rd minute. Kohl created space by pushing the ball from the right-side toward the middle of the field before ripping a left-footed strike that hit the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line.
