LANCASTER, Pa. – The women's track and field team opened up their season at the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin and Marshall with multiple great performances.
In the Results
In the 200m, Kathyn Wiederrecht highlighted the Falcons' performance with a time of 27.69, good for ninth place. K. Wiederrecht also placed 16th in the 60m dash, running her way onto the indoor top-10 list with a 8.31. In the 400m, Rebeca Crosley was the top Falcon with her fifth place finish.
Messiah had five Falcons finish in the top-15 of the 800m. Leading the way was
Leanne Weaver who took 1st overall with a time of 2:19.84. Elissa Slader followed closely behind to take fourth place, coming through the line in 2:22.42.
Madison Myers finished the 800m in 2:29.94 which was good for a seventh place finish.
Brieanna Hess (12th) and
Emma Johnsen (14th) were just under a second away from each other, finishing with a 2:35.66 and 2:36.06, respectively.
In the 3000m, Messiah had three athletes finish in the top-10.
Sarah Codd and
Maddison Landis led the way for the Falcons as both earned a spot on the program's top-10 list. Codd finished fourth overall with a time of 10:42.27, a 28 second personal best from her last indoor 3000m. Landis took sixth overall with a time of 10:47.53, putting her ninth on the top-10 list.
Abby McMinn highlighted the Falcons' performance in the 60m hurdles, taking 5th with a 9.63.
Kathryn Wiederrecht took 12th with a time of 10.06 and
Kelsie Kennedy finsihed in 15th with 10.16.
In the 4x400m relay, Messiah took 1st with a time of 4:07.55. The relay team consisted of
Kelsie Kennedy,
Leanne Weaver,
Rebecca Crosley, and
Taylor Wiederrecht. The squads time was nearly three seconds faster than second place and is the second fastest time in program history.
Taylor Wiederrecht took 1st in high jump with a program-record jump of 1.68m. T. Wiederrecht's jump was eight centimeters higher than the second place finisher.
Alyssa McMinn took 5th in the weight throw with a program-record throw of 14.22m. McMinn's throw was her first throw of the final round and was the second best throw out of Division III competitors. McMinn also finished in 10th place in shot put with a 11.18m throw.

New Records
After taking sole possession of the outdoor high jump record in her 2017-18 outdoor season with a jump of 5ft 5.25in,
Taylor Wiederrecht opened up the 2018-19 indoor season with a jump of 5ft 6in to break a three-way tie for the women's indoor high jump record. Wiederrecht shared the record with
Hadlee Coker (2014) and
Marie Johnson (2015), all clearing 5ft 4.25in.
In the weight throw,
Alyssa McMinn bettered her own school record by four inches with a throw of 46ft 6in. McMinn earned the school record last season at the MAC Championships with a throw of 46ft 2in. McMinn's throw puts her almost three feet ahead of the previous record holder, Alyssa Lengel (2011), who threw 43ft 8in.

The Falcons will take a break for finals and Christmas before returning to the track on January 19th at Susquehanna University.
