Game Recap: Softball |

Falcons Swept by No. 2 Bulldogs

SEGUIN, TX – The Messiah softball team was swept by Texas Lutheran in a double-header contest falling 8-0 in six innings in the first game and then losing 7-4 in the second. Amber Bingaman had two hits on the day while the Falcons in total only had seven hits.

With the loss Messiah drops to 6-8 on the year and are back tomorrow taking on the University of Texas-Dallas in a double-header beginning at 2:00 p.m. eastern time.

Game One: Messiah 0, Texas Lutheran 8
As aforementioned hits were hard to come part, particularly in the first game as Messiah had just two hits compared to Texas Lutheran who cracked out 11. After two innings of scoreless play, the Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the third off four hits and one Falcon error to lead 4-0.

Later they added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth off three hits and then in the eighth scored two more runs to enforce the run rule. All in all, Messiah played good defense and had just one error on the day but couldn't get the offense going against pitcher Maitlin Raycroft who had just a 1.58 ERA coming into the game. Carrie Fix earned the loss and dropped to 3-4 on the season.

Game Two: Messiah 4, Texas Lutheran 7
Messiah's offense got going a little in the second game as they had five hits but after getting behind 6-0 early, it was hard to make a comeback. The Bulldogs didn't take long scoring four runs in the first inning off three hits and then two innings later added two more runs to go up 6-0. The Falcons showed some life in the fourth inning when Amber Bingaman walked to start the inning and then Erin Cressman and Isabel Seise both reached on errors to load the bases. McKenzie Tebbs then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Bingman, while Cressman also scored from second on the throw.

Still trailing 6-2, Carrie Fix hit a single in the sixth and then scored on a single by Bingman to cut the lead down, but Texas Lutheran responded with one in their half of the inning to go back up by four 7-3.  Down to their last chance, the Falcons did add one more run in the seventh but couldn't get any more falling 7-4 in the game.
