READING, Pa. - The Messiah softball team racked up 12 hits in the night cap of a double header contest against Albright to win 11-1 in six innings an earn the sweep and move to 2-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. Joy Kolakowsi (2-1) picked up the win throwing the whole six innings.
Carrie Fix went 4-8 with three RBI's and three runs scored across the two games, while
Amber Bingaman went 3-7 with three runs scored. In the second game,
Angie Stephano had two hits, three RBI's and
Nicole Kreimer had two hits with two RBI's. A very balance offensive effort helped earn both the wins today and Messiah improves to 11-9 on the season.
Game Two: Messiah 11, Albright 1
The Falcons scored early when
Carrie Fix blasted a homer over the center field fence in the first inning and then in the third
Angie Stephano had an RBI to put Messiah up 2-0. Albright got a run back in the bottom of the third but the Falcons scored two more runs in the fourth when
Nicole Kreimer hit a RBI triple and then a RBI single by
Samantha Esper made the score 4-1.Â
Messiah kept swinging and added to their run total in the fifth inning when Haylee Anders hit a triple to start the inning and
Amber Bingaman reached on an error and then stole second. After
Erin Cressman was intentionally walked,
Isabel Seise also drew a walk and Anders scored on the play. Then with one out and the bases loaded Stephano hit a double to score two runs and give the Falcons a commanding 7-1 lead. They added four more runs in the sixth due to a big triple by pinch hitter
Amanda Petersen and an RBI double by Kreimer en route to the 11-1 victory after the defense held Albright in the bottom of the sixth and the run rule came into effect.
Game One: Messiah 6, Albright 3
The Messiah softball team utilized a late-game rally to come from behind and win game one of a double header contest against Albright 6-3. Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, they scored four runs and held the Lions in the bottom of the seventh to earn the victory.
Madelyn Yannetti (3-3) entered in the fifth inning and helped secure the win for the Falcons. The team had nine total hits in the game.
After getting behind early 1-0,
Erin Cressman broke things open when she hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for Messiah to take the lead 2-1.
Amber Bingaman started the inning with a double down the left field line and scored on Cressman's homerun. Albright responded in the bottom of the fifth and scored two more runs off a two-run double by Kaitlyn Chell to put them back up 3-2.
Madelyn Yannetti entered to pitch for starter
Carrie Fix as was able to get Messiah out of the inning without any further damage.
Heading into the seventh inning and down to their last chance, the Falcons accepted the challenge when with one out, pinch hitter
Amanda Petersen drew a walk and then
Samantha Esper singled to left field.
Carrie Fix then stepped up to the plate and cracked a big double to right center scoring pinch runner Morgan Zimmerman and Esper. With Fix at second,
Haylee Anders also hit a double to score Fix and then Bingaman sinlged to keep the inning going. After Bingaman stole second, Cressman was intentionally walked to load the bases and then
Madelyn Yannetti drew a big walk as Messiah scored another run on the play to go up 6-3.
The last two batters were retired but the Lions went three-up-three-down in their half of the inning as the Falcons earned the comeback victory.Â
