Falcons Fall in Final Day of NFCA Classic

TUCSON, Az. – The Messiah softball team dropped their last two games of the NFCA Leadoff Classic earlier today falling to William Paterson 3-1 and then Pacific Lutheran 7-3. Offense was a struggle today as the Falcons only had four hits across the two games. Carrie Fix (2-3) picked up the loss in game one and Joy Kolakowski (1-1) in game two.

Messiah is now 4-6 on the season and are back in action nest Wednesday Mar. 7 taking on York college in a double header contest beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Game One: Messiah 1, George Fox 3
This game was the closest context for the Falcons all weekend but offense was again a struggle as they only had two hits in the game while William Paterson had seven. The Pioneers scored first pushing runs across in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons got on the board when Carrie Fix hit a homerun to cut the lead 2-1. After two scoreless innings, William Paterson added an insurance run in the seventh and then Messiah was unable to score in their half of the inning.

Game Two: Messiah 3, Trine 7
The Falcons played better in this game and after getting down 1-0 early, they added a run in the second inning when Lindsey Quinn hit an RBI single to score Erin Cressman. Then in the third inning Amber Bingaman homered, Carrie Fix hit a single to start off the inning and scored on the homerun. Heading into the bottom of the fourth with a 3-1 lead, Messiah was once again plagued by errors on defense that led to a four-run inning for William Paterson and the took the lead 5-3.

Later in the fifth inning the Pioneers added two more runs to stay ahead 7-3 and the Falcons were retired in the final two innings to suffer the loss.
