GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah women's softball team earned a double-header sweep over York College today winning 8-1 and then 9-1 in the second game.
Erin Cressman went 6-7 with 6 RBI's and five runs scored which included two home runs on the day.
Amber Bingaman went 4-8 with two runs scored, and Isabel Siese had three hits on the day. In total Messiah finished with 26 hits across the two games and committed just one error, a big step up from their previous six contest.
The Falcons are now back to 6-6 on the season and will travel to Seguin, TX for six games over spring break. They will be playing double headers against Texas Lutheran, University of UT-Dallas, and University of LaVerne. Their first games are on Tuesday Mar. 13 against the host Texas Lutheran beginning at 1:00 p.m. eastern time.
Game One: Messiah 8, York 1
Messiah was able to get on the score board first in the bottom of the second inning
Amber Bingaman got things started with a double to left center. With one out, and Bingaman on second
Nicole Kreimer hit a single up the middle to score
Morgan Zimmerman who entered as a pinch runner. After two scoreless innings York managed to push a run across in the top of the fifth inning when Van O'Lind reached on an error and then scored unearned on a triple by Zittle to tie the game 1-1.
The Falcons responded in their half of inning added two more runs to regain the lead 3-1.
Carrie Fix ripped a single down the right field line to start the inning and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Haylee Anders. Then with two outs Cressman singled to score fix and
Isabel Seise hit a single. With runners at first and second pinch hitter
Lynsey Quinn hit a single to score Cressman.
Messiah erupted for five more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning which inlcuded a three-run homer by Cressman to aid the Falcons on to the 8-1 victory.
Game Two: Messiah 9, York 1
The second game was very similar to the first with the Messiah offense going strong as they put up nine runs. In the bottom of the second Quinn, Kreimer, and
Samantha Esper all hit singles to load the bases with
Carrie Fix coming to bat. She hit a long fly ball to right field and pinch runner Zimmerman was able to tag up and score on the play. With runners at second and third, Anders hit a single up the middle to score both Kreimer and Esper as Messiah had a 3-0 lead after the inning.
The Falcons added another run in the third and fifth innings,
Erin Cressman had part as she doubled to start off the third and eventually scored and then hit her second dinger of the day to start off the fifth inning. York managed to score on run in the top of the sixth but then in Messiah's half of the inning they added four more runs of four hits to enforce the run-rule and win the game 9-1.
