Falcons Sweep Warriors, Weaver Earns 600th Win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Messiah softball team defeating Lycoming College on the road today winning 2-1 (8 innings) in the first game and 11-1 (6 innings) in the night cap. With the victories head coach Amy Weaver reached the 600th career-win milestone and now ranks in the top-20 among active NCAA Division III softball coaches. In her 21st season at the helm of Messiah's softball program, Weaver is the second winningest coach in Messiah Athletics history and has guided the Falcons to a 21-13 record so far this year.

Erin Cressman also reached a notable achievement as she earned two walks tonight to became the program record holder for walks in a season with 32.

Game One: Messiah 2, Lycoming 1
Lycoming scored the first run of the game in the third inning, but Messiah didn't take long to respond scoring the equalizer in the fourth. Madelyn Yannetti hit a single up the middle to score Erin Cressman who walked earlier in the inning. The next three innings were scoreless, including the seventh and so on to extras to determine the winner. Cressman started the inning off with a single to right field and advanced to second on a fielding error. Alyssa Hamilton entered the game as a pinch-hitter and laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Cressman to third base setting up what was the game-winning single by Madelyn Yannetti who was the next batter. She delivered a single to left field to put the Falcons up 2-1 and even though the Warriors had runners on the in the bottom of the inning, pitcher Carrie Fix (8-5) retired the side to win game one.

Game Two: Messiah 11, Lycoming 1
The second game went a little differently as the Messiah offense got going and racked up 14 hits to score 11 runs, six of which came in the sixth inning. Isabel Seise went 4-4  with five RBI's and two runs scored. Carrie Fix and Erin Cressman each had two hits in the game and pitcher Joy Kolakowski (8-3) earned the win. After Lycoming scored a run in the first inning, the Falcons responded with three runs in the second when Angie Stephano tabbed a double down the left field line to start the rally. After being advanced on a sacrifice bunt, Seise singled up the middle to score the first run of the game. With two outs and two runners on, Carrie Fix single with two runs scoring on the play as Messiah went up 3-1.

In the top of the third with two outs, Isabel Seise delivered again with a single to score Stephano who earned a walk earlier in the inning as the Falcon lead extended to 4-1. Messiah added one more run in the fifth inning when Seise with the hot bat, doubled to right center to pick up another RBI and increase the lead 5-1.

The sixth inning is when the offense busted things wide open as they scored six runs off six hits to go up by double digits 11-1. Isabel Seise recorded two more RBI's in the inning while Madelyn Yannetti had an RBI double during the rally. With the five-inning mercy rule in effect, Lycoming got a couple hits off pitcher Joy Kolakowski but she retired the side and ended the game with a strikeout as Messiah earned the sweep.
