FREDERICK, Md. – No. 13 Messiah women's lacrosse team delivering a dominating performance on the road this afternoon defeating conference opponent 18-2. They builit a 12-0 lead after the first half and never looked back en route to the big win.
Annika Johnsen tallied three times for the Falcons and 10 other players scored goals in the game.
Messiah outshot Hood 35-6, had more groud balls (22-9), and was 13-22 on draw controls.
Kendra Herbenar led the team with nine draw controls.
The win pushed the Falcons to 11-3 on the season and 6-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. They will be back at home this Saturday hosting Albright College for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
Messiah scored the first goal at the 27:22 mark when
Annika Johnsen found the back of the net off an assist by
Jess Hatch. The Falcons scored the next five goals across nine minutes and built up a 6-0 lead with 18:30 left in the half. Johsen tallied again while
Kendra Herbenar,
Abby Howard, and
Mckenna Edwards all had goals in the scoring run.
The Falcons finished the half on a 6-0 scoring run and allowed just one shot for the final 15 minutes of the half. With less than 10 minutes in the half,
Gabi Griffith,
Katelyn Pearson, and
Michelle Krenzke all had goals and Messiah had a solid 12-0 lead a halftime.
With a player-up opportunity to start the second half, Jessica Hatch scored quickly, just 22 seconds in to extend the lead 13-0. A goal by
Courtney Wagner came just three minutes later, and two more goals as the lead increased to 16-0.
Abby Howard put through goal number 17 for Messiah off a free-position shot with 16:51 left to play and the final goal came from
Eliza Lortie at the 14:12 mark.
Hood managed to score two goals in the remaining 10 minutes of the game one from Rachel Slater during player-up opportunity and the second goal came two minutes later when Kara Phoubandith found the back of the net. The Falcons were able to ride out the rest of the game and earn their seventh-straight victory 18-2.
