Falcons Hold Off Warriors in a 6-3 Battle

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah College women's tennis team completed their match against Lycoming on Wednesday afternoon, after their match on Tuesday was suspended due to weather. The Falcons secured a 6-3 victory over the Warriors and moved to 7-5 overall and 5-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.

Messiah swept Lycoming in doubles action, 3-0. No. 2 doubles, Carly Dove and Amanda Adams competed and won 8-5 over their opponents. Kelly Hopkins and Kaitlyn Russell (no. 1 doubles) participated in an action-packed battle and picked up a big 9-7 win over the Warriors. The Falcons won the third doubles match by default.

Singles action was competitive and both teams finished with three wins. Amanda Adams and Emily Wichert both had dominant performances and swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0. The third Messiah win in singles play was due to default. Kelly Hopkins battled but fell to her opponent 2-6, 6-3, 13-11 in the number one singles position. Kaitlyn Russell and Carly Dove were also defeated in a close matches 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 and 7-5, 6-3, respectively.

The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow, Apr. 19 when they travel to take on Eastern University at 3:00 p.m.
