GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Messiah College men's tennis team moved to 6-0 in the MAC Commonwealth after they defeated the Knights of Arcadia 8-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons have now won their past seven-straight matches and are 7-7 overall.
Messiah dominated in singles action and swept Arcadia 6-0.
Tim Dunn (no. 1) got things started for the Falcons and won his match 6-2, 6-2 and
Andrew Bookman (no. 5) soon followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
Bryson Boettger (no. 6) battled in the first set and won 7-5, he then carried that momentum into the second set and won 6-1. No. 4 singles,
Alex Mantsevich, had a strong start and won 6-4 in set one, he then fell to his opponent 2-6. However, Mantsevich was able to finish the match with power and won 6-0.
Galen Fitzkee (no. 2) had a close first set victory, 7-6 (8-6), but dropped set two 4-6. Fitzkee battled back and clinched the match 6-3 in the third set. Although he had a slow start,
Connor Graybeal (no. 3) was able to finish things off for Messiah. Graybeal fell in the first set 2-6, but bounced back to win 6-3, 6-1 to sweep the Knights in singles play.
In doubles action,
Tim Dunn and
Connor Graybeal (no. 1) controlled their match and defeated their opponents 8-1.
Alex Mantsevich and
Andrew Bookman (no. 2) fought and won their match 8-6, however
Galen Fitzkee/
Keller Martin (no. 3) battled but fell 8-6 in their match.
Messiah will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 24 when they host Elizabethtown College at 3:30 p.m.
