GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah College women's tennis team will move on to the MAC Commonwealth Championship for the third-straight year after they defeated No. 4 Arcadia University on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons won the semifinal match 5-2 and will host the winner of No. 2-seeded Lebanon Valley and No. 3 Lycoming on Saturday.
Messiah was tested in doubles action. No. 3 doubles
Emily Wichert and
Gabby Brooks were able to pick up an early 8-4 win over their opponents. However, No. 2's
Amanda Adams and
Carly Dove were defeated 8-3 after an early deficit.
Kelly Hopkins and
Kaitlyn Russell competed in a high-intense match and they were able to pick up a 9-7 win. After being tied at 5-5 the Falcons were trailing 7-6 and the Knights were close to securing their second win of the afternoon. Hopkins and Russell were able to generate some momentum and come back to win three-straight games to win 9-7.
In singles play,
Amanda Adams got things started with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win, while
Kaitlyn Russell was right behind her with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Emily Wichert clinched the Falcons win after she defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-3.
The Falcons will host the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday, May 5th and will look to win their third-straight conference title. Continue to check
