GRANTHAM, Pa. – After a day full of close sets and long games, the Falcons drop two matches with the losses coming from the York Spartans 3-1 (13-25, 25-23, 25-20, 28-26) and the DeSales Bulldogs 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13). As a team, the Falcons registered a total of 110 kills between the two matches with
Braedyn Gallagher chiming in for 27 kills of her own.
Kate Preudhomme (24),
Mary Underman (23), and
Lanae Hunsberger (21) all collected 20-plus kills over the two matches. On the defensive side for the Falcons,
Amanda Dahlman registered 18 digs against York and 37 digs against the Bulldogs.
Match One: York (Pa.) defeats Messiah 3-1 (13-25, 25-23, 25-20, 28-26)
How It Happened
After a blistering start against the York Spartans, the Messiah women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (13-25, 25-23, 25-20, 28-26) loss to begin day two of the Messiah Invitational. The Falcons swung at an impressive .313 clip in the match, but fell just short in the match.
Lanae Hunsberger picked up 15 kills to lead the Falcons in the contest.
Mary Underman finishedthe match with 14 kills and a team-high .684 hitting percentage. Defensively,
Amanda Dahlman led the squad with 18 digs on the night, while
Katie Wilcox (26) and
Heston Cowoski (20) each dished out 20-plus assists.
Match Two: DeSales defeats Messiah 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13)
How It Happened
The Falcons secured the win in the first game with 13 kills to hold off the Bulldogs but dropped the next two sets, putting the pressure on them to force a fifth set.
Braedyn Gallagher led the attack for Messiah, collecting 19 kills with
Kate Preudhomme made her presence known as well, recording 15 kills. Leading the way for the Falcons' defense was
Amanda Dahlman who accumulated 37 digs over the five sets while Gallagher (14) and
Heston Cowoski (12) chimed in for double-digit digs as well. Messiah made a strong push to take the fourth set but lost the decisive fifth set after holding a 13-12 lead.
What's Up Next
The Falcons will play their third conference game of the season when they travel to Arcadia University on Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Messiah looks to improve to 2-1 in conference play.
