Golden Wolves Rally Past Falcons In Conference Doubleheader

READING, Pa. - The Falcons suffered two conference losses on the road against Alvernia. Messiah held a 2-1 lead in game one but the Golden Wolves recorded five runs in the bottom of the second and another run in the third. The Falcons made a late push in the fifth and sixth, recording four runs between the two innings but it wasn't enough as Messiah fell 7-6. 

In game two, Messiah struck first again with a run in the first inning. The Falcons kept things going in the fourth inning, adding two more runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Golden Wolves broke through in the bottom of the sixth, recording four runs to take a 4-3 lead to capture the second victory of Messiah.

Alvernia Defeats Messiah 7-6
The Falcons struck first with style in the first inning. Haylee Anders singled through the right side and was brought home after a two-run homer from Erin Cressman that gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Alvernia responded promptly in the bottom of the first. A triple down the right field line put a runner in scoring position and an RBI single to left center cut the Falcons' lead in half.

The Falcons had a quick second inning but the Golden Wolves utilized five hits to record five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-2 lead. Alvernia hit an RBI double and an RBI single to highlight the inning. 

Messiah made a push to regain their early lead in the top of the fifth. Haylee Anders started the inning with a four-pitch walk and later advanced to second after a single from McKenzie Tebbs. An RBI single from Jaelynn Harbold brought home Anders and moved Tebbs over to second. Kara Birosak kept the rally going with a two-RBI double to right center, putting the Falcons within two at 7-5. After Rianna Trexler got hit by a pitch, Karlee Stocksdale single to shortstop to load the bases. With an opportunity to take the lead, the Falcons struck out, leaving three runners on base. 

The Falcons added another run in the top of the sixth after Jaelynn Harbold collected another RBI with a single to left center. Unfortunately for the Falcons, it wasn't enough as Messiah went scoreless in the top of the seventh, dropping game one 7-6 to the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia Defeats Messiah 4-3
Messiah started game two on top after Erin Cressman hit an RBI single to bring Ashley Carroll home. The Falcons added two more runs in the top of the fourth, giving them a 3-0 lead over the Golden Wolves. With one out, Kara Birosak double down the left field line on a 3-1 count. Sam Fouracre singled to right field and advanced to second on the throw while advancing Birosak to third. Rianna Trexler reach on a fielder error and moved to second on a throwing error. The throwing error by the Golden Wolves brought home Bailey, who pinch ran for Fouracre, and Birosak, giving Messiah the 3-0 lead. 

The Falcons had the Golden Wolves locked down until the bottom of the sixth inning. The inning started with Alvernia reaching on a fielding error then recording a run after an RBI triple to left field. Later in the inning, the Golden Wolves ripped a triple down the  right field line to bring in two more runs and tie the game at 3-3. Alvernia hit an RBI single to right field to take a 4-3 lead that would be the eventual final score after the Falcons left two runners on base in the top of the seventh. 

What's Up Next
The Falcons are now 9-13 on the season and 2-4 in the conference. Messiah will next be in action on Apr. 2 at 3:00pm in a non-conference doubleheader against Gettysburg College.
