OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Messiah College men's tennis team traveled to Stevenson University on Tuesday afternoon, to face off in a MAC Commonwealth dual. The Falcons fell to the Mustangs 8-1 and move to 3-1 in the conference.
Andrew Bookman picked up Messiah's solo win in singles action. This was the Falcons first MAC Commonwealth regular season loss since the 2012-13 season and ends an impressive 37-straight regular season conference victories. Messiah moves to 5-9 on the year.
How It Happened
The Mustangs started off strong and swept their way through doubles play, picking up early wins in the No.1 (8-1) and No. 2 (8-4) spots. However,
Jarod Snader and
Cody Fitzwater put up a great fight for Messiah in No. 3 doubles. They battled but fell 8-7 (7-4) in the tiebreaker.Â
In singles play,
Andrew Bookman competed as No. 3 singles for Messiah and picked up the Falcons only win. Bookman dropped the first set 3-6, yet he answered in set two with a 6-3 victory. He carried that momentum into the final set and secured a 10-5 victory.
Bryson Boettger competed well for the Falcons and won the first set 6-4. However, he was unable to pull out the win and was defeated 6-2, 10-8 in the last two sets.
