Falcons Secure Fifth-Straight Win, Conquer Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Messiah College women's tennis traveled down to Stevenson University to compete in another MAC Commonwealth battle on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons handed the Mustangs their first conference loss by defeating them 8-1. Messiah moves to 5-8 overall and remains undefeated in the conference with a 4-0 record. The Falcons were steady throughout doubles action, claiming all three matches. They continued their winning-ways in singles, capturing five out of six victories.

How It Happened
No. 2 doubles Amanda Adams and Rebekah Adams and No. 3 Gabby Brooks and Rachel Marcroft both secured 8-5 wins to start the Falcons off in doubles play. No. 1 Kaitlyn Russell and Emily Wichert picked up Messiah's third victory after they defeated their opponents 8-6.

Messiah carried that momentum into singles play picking up five more wins. Amanda Adams didn't drop a game, overpowering her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Rebekah Adams also found success at the No. 4 slot grabbing a 6-0, 6-1 win. Sarah Summerson had a close match against Stevenson's Jacquelyn Nesbeth, however Summerson pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Gabby Brooks was down 2-6 after the first set, but fought to win the second set 6-3. Brooks had all the momentum going into the final set, winning it 10-2. No. 1 Kaitlyn Russell dropped her first set 7-5, however responded by defeating her opponent 6-1. In the third set, Russell battled and won 10-8 to secure the Falcons' final victory.

Messiah has two regular season matches remaining before heading into the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. The Falcons will host Hood College on Wednesday, Apr. 23 at 3:30 pm and Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 1:00 pm.
