Falcons Split Conference Doubleheader With The Pride

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Falcons defeated the Pride 7-5 in game one of a conference doubleheader. Rianna Trexler got things started for the Falcons in the bottom of the third when she hit a homerun over the center field wall to give Messiah the 1-0 lead. Trexler led the way for Messiah the rest of the way as she finished the day with four RBI's off of three hits. 

The Pride defeated the Falcons in game two in extra innings after recording six runs in the last three innings of the contest. the Pride struck first in the opening inning and held a 1-0 lead through the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Isabel Seise double to right center to bring in two runs and give the Falcons the 2-1 lead. Messiah forced extra innings with three runs going into the bottom of the seventh after trailing 5-2 going into the inning. The Pride hit a triple in left center to bring in two runs and take game two 7-5.

Messiah Defeats Widener 7-5
The Falcons and Pride both went scoreless through two full innings but Messiah struck first in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun from Rianna Trexler. After a three up and three down fourth inning for the Pride, the Falcons kept the bats going. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, McKenzie Tebbs started the inning with a single to shortstop. Erin Cressman got walked in the next at bat, moving Tebbs to second in the process. Jaelynn Harbold moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt and Isabel Seise was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases. Rianna Trexler came up to bat and hit a two-RBI single to center field, giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead. On that same play, Seise attempted to grab an extra base but was caught in the run down which ended the inning.

Both team's failed to record a hit in the fifth inning but Widener battled back in the sixth. The Pride started the inning with a triple to right center and later added their first run of the game after a single up the middle. After a double to right center, the game was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Falcons didn't slow down in the bottom of the sixth with Tebbs and Cressman both recording singles up the middle to get on base. Jaelynn Harbold walked to load the bases and Isabel Seise brought all three home with a double to right center, giving the Falcons a 6-3 lead. Rianna Trexler singled through the left side later in the inning to bring home Sarah Chen, who pinch ran for Seise to give the Falcons the 7-3 lead.

The Pride hit an RBI triple with one out in the top of the seventh and added one more run off an RBI groundout to make it 7-5 in favor of the Falcons. Widener's late push fell short as the Falcons defeated the Pride 7-5.

Widener Defeats Messiah 7-5
The Pride wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game two as Messiah fell into an early whole with two runners on and one out in the first inning. Widener capitalized on a throwing error and a single to put runners on first and second. The Pride brought in a run off a single to take an early 1-0 lead over Messiah.

The Falcons recorded three hits through the third inning, leaving a total of three runs on base but fought for the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Elena Rosas singled through the left side to start the inning and later advanced to second after a single up the middle from Jaelynn Harbold. Isabel Seise brought both runners home with a two-RBI double to right center, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead. 

The Pride answered in the top of the sixth to notch the game at 2-2. Widener walked their second batter, hit a single to first base on a bunt and later singled up the middle to load the bases. A fielder's choice ball brought home the equalizer for the Pride before they hit a fly out to center field to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jaelynn Harbold single to left field and Isabel Seise was intentionally walked. Kara Birosak single to left field, loading the bases with just one out but a pop up and a foul out ended the inning for the Falcons. 

Widener came out swinging in the seventh inning. The Pride started the inning with a lineout right back to Rebekah Pais but hit back to back singles and a fielder's choice ball to load the bases with one out. A single through the right side gave the Pride a 3-2 lead  and forced the Falcons to bring Emily Albanese to the circle. Widener kept things going despite the pitching change, recording an RBI bunt and an RBI single through the left side to take a 5-2 lead before the Falcons could end the inning. 

Karlee Stocksdale grounded out to third to open the bottom of the seventh inning but Haylee Anders tripled to right center to bring some life to the game for Messiah. McKenzie Tebbs hit a line drive right to second and the Falcons had two outs with one runner on base, trailling 5-2. Elena Rosas worked the count and walked her way to first before Jaelynn Harbold stepped up to the plate and singled up the middle to bring home Anders. Isabel Seise came through in a clutch moment with two outs and two runners on as she hit a two-RBI single to tie the game 5-5 and force extra innings.

With Rebekah Pais back in the circle, the Pride began the eighth inning with a fly out to center field. The Pride then recorded two-straight singles and followed those up with a two-RBI triple to left center the would give them a 7-5 lead and the eventual victory over the Falcons in game two.

The Falcons didn't go down without a fight in the bottom of the eighth. Rianna Trexler singled through the left side to get out on base and Haylee Anders followed in pursuit with a single of her own. McKenzie Tebbs drilled a line drive to third base but it was caught and the Pride defeated Messiah 7-5 in eight innings.

The Falcons will travel to Dickinson College to take on the Red Devils this Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
