GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah College women's tennis team hosted the Arcadia Knights in a MAC Commonwealth battle on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons soared to an 8-1 victory over the Knights to improve to 2-0 in the conference. Messiah started strong by sweeping through doubles action and continued that momentum by winning five out of six singles matches.
How It Happened
As previously mentiond, the Falcons claimed a 3-0 sweep in doubles play. No. 2 doubles,
Amanda Adams and
Rebekah Adams started things off for Messiah by defeating their opponents 8-4, while
Gabby Brooks and
Rachel Marcroft fought hard and secured an 8-6 at the No. 3 slot.
Kaitlyn Russell and
Emily Wichert came from behind to send their match into a tiebreaker and defeated the top Arcadia team 8-7 (7-3).
In singles action,
Sarah Summerson (6-1, 6-1) and
Amanda Adams (6-1, 6-2) picked up two early victories for the Falcons.
Emily Wichert won her match due to her opponent retiring (6-1, 3-3), while
Kaitlyn Russell secured a hard-fought win in the No. 1 spot, 6-4. 7-5.
Gabby Brooks was the final Falcon to pick up a singles win (8-4) and helped her team capture their third-straight victory.
Messiah will return to the court on Tuesday, April 9 when they travel to Lycoming College for another conference battle.
