Successful Efforts Earn Three Falcons MAC Player Of The Week

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic Conference announced their weekly awards this morning for the week ending Feb. 9. There were three Falcons honored in Esther Seeland, Matt Knab, and Caleb Weaver.

Seeland won the mile over the weekend at the Frank Colden Invitational in a time of 4:59.91 while helping the 4x400m relay team win by more than 12 seconds (4:01.14). Knab dished out 127 assists in the Falcons 4-0 week while Weaver played great defense, recording 35 digs overall in three matches.

MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Sophomore Esther Seeland earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Seeland became the second woman in Messiah program history to ever run a sub-five minute mile and the first to do it on a flat track ever when she turned in a 4:59.91 mile at the Frank Colden Invitational this weekend at Ursinus. She won the event by a little over a second against teammate Leanne Weaver (third place was 23 seconds behind Weaver in 5:24). The MAC record sits at 4:54.10. Seeland also helped the Falcons win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:01.14 (more than 12 seconds ahead of second place). Seeland's mile is ranked No. 3 in the country.

MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Junior Matt Knab helped the Falcons to a perfect 4-0 week while competing in three matches and 13 total sets. He dished out 127 assists (9.77 per set) while earning 11 digs, and 11 total blocks. On the week he hit .375 with seven kills on 16 swings and just one error. In a 3-2 victory over No. 9 Arcadia, Knab did a little bit of everything with four kills, 47 assists, five digs, and three block assists as Messiah defeated their first-ever top-10 team in program history. He recorded 52 assists in a win over Kean.

MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Senior Caleb Weaver helped the Falcons to a perfect 4-0 week, appearing in three matches and 13 total sets. Weaver picked up a total of 35 digs on the week (2.69 per set) with nine assists. Against No. 9 Arcadia, Weaver earned 17 digs and four assists while even picking up a kill as Messiah beat their first-ever top-10 team in program history.
