GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah women's lacrosse team earned their fifth-straight victory to begin the 2021 season, topping the visiting Alvernia Golden Wolves 21-7 on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons' 21 goals are a new season high and their most in a game since their meeting with Alvernia on Apr. 13, 2019.
Messiah did not waste any time on Saturday, scoring the first first eight goals of the contest. The Falcons needed just 5:10 to build that 8-0 advantage. While the Golden Wolves got on the board, Messiah continued to build their lead. The Falcons held a 16-5 advantage at the half before rolling to the 21-7 victory.
Eleven different Falcons tallied points in the victory, with Rachael Delate leading the team with seven after netting a pair of goals and five assists.
Abby Howard led Messiah with four goals while
Amanda Wadsworth and
Katie Heck each found the twine three times.
Messiah moves to 5-0 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Hood Blazers at 7:00 p.m.
Don't Blink
Messiah wasted little time getting on the board, scoring eight times in the first five-plus minutes of the contest.
Katie Heck netted three goals in the stretch with
Abby Howard finding the twine twice.
Heck got the scoring going with a goal just 12 seconds into the contest.
After the Golden Wolves scored two of the next three tallies, Messiah went on another scoring streak, putting home six in the next 10 minutes. Despite Alvernia scoring a third goal during that stretch, Messiah took a 15-3 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the opening half.
Hope Flack capped off the Messiah scoring for the first half with the Falcons leading 16-5 at the break.
Rolling to a Fifth-Straight
With the clock rolling for the entirety of the second-half, Messiah tacked on five more goals while allowing two to the Golden Wolves en route to the 21-7 victory.
Amanda Wadsworth scored a pair of tallies after the break while
Ehryn Groothoff,
Abby Howard, and
Emma Lytle each netted one.
Messiah went on for the 21-7 victory, improving to 5-0 on the season.
The Falcons outshot the Golden Wolves 31-17 in the contest while also picking up 20 draw controls to Alvernia's eight.

The Falcons will be back in action on Wedneday when they host the Hood College Blazers at 7:00 p.m. on the Lacrosse Turf. The Blazers are 2-1 on the young season.
