Women's Lacrosse Tops Hood, Soars To Sixth-Straight Victory

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The #21 Messiah women's lacrosse team improved to a perfect 6-0 (3-0 MAC Commonwealth) with a 21-2 win over visiting Hood College on Wednesday night. The Falcons registered 12 different goal scorers on the night, with Amanda Wadsworth, Abby Howard, and Rachel Delate all tallying hat tricks for Messiah. With another lopsided victory, the Falcons have now scored at least 17 goals in all six of their wins.
 
The Falcons did not waste any time establishing a commanding lead. With 26:11 remaining in the first half, the Falcons had already built a 5-0 advantage behind goals from Wadsworth (2), Delate (1), Hope Flack (1), and Katie Heck (1). Messiah did not take its foot off the gas pedal, building its lead to 13-2 by halftime. Wadsworth tallied all three of her goals in the half, as Flack, Howard, and Delate each contributed a pair. Emma Lytle scored two goals as well, converting a woman-up opportunity with 22:37 remaining, and notching her second tally at the 17:53 mark. Lytle's pair of goals upped her season total to 10, shooting at a .526% clip during the 2021 campaign.
 
The Falcons outshot the Blazers in the first half, 25-6. The Falcons turned the ball over on just six occassions, forcing 12 Hood mishaps.
 
Messiah completed the dominant victory in the second half, tacking on eight more goals, while shutting out the visitors. Grace Gormley, tacking on her fifth goal of the season, began Messiah's second half scoring efforts just 2:47 into the period. Howard completed her hat trick just under three minutes later (24:34), upping her season total to 19 goals. The goals continued to come, as Riley Latshaw found herself on the score sheet with a goal at the 14:39 mark, increasing the lead, 18-2. The Falcons were equitable in its goal scorers, as Ehryn Groothoff and Abigail Evans each made goal-scoring contributions. Emily Reisinger scored the final two goals of the game, increasing her season total to five. The Falcons completed the home decision over Hood, 21-2. With the win, Messiah improves to 8-0 all-time opposite the Blazers.
 
Freshman goalie Mackenzie O'Haver played all 30 minutes of the second half, recording a clean sheet behind five saves to earn her third decision of the year, bolstering her record to 3-0 on the season.
 
The Falcons fired off 41 shots to Hood's 12, forcing 18 turnovers from the Blazers. In addition to a favorable shots and turnover margin, Messiah was successful in all 11 of its clear attempts on the night.

Delate, with her three-goal showing, leads the MAC Commonwealth in points (42), averaging a conference-best 7.00 points per game.
 
With its sixth-consecutive win to open the 2021 season, Messiah has now outscored its opposition, 114-20.
 
#21 Messiah (6-0, 3-0) will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 27, when they travel to Eastern University to take on the Eagles at 1:00 p.m.
