YORK, Pa. - The Messiah women's tennis team fell 8-1 in their season opener at York College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The lone match win for the Falcons came in the form of No. 2 doubles where
Rachel Marcroft and
Rebekah Sheaffer picked up an 8-5 victory over Michaela Sentz and Chloe Doyle. The Falcons will be back in action at home next Saturday, Mar. 27 against Wilkes University on Criste Courts at 1:00 p.m.
Doubles Victory
As mentioned,
Rachel Marcroft and
Rebekah Sheaffer won at No. 2 doubles for the Falcons 8-5. This is Sheaffer's first collegiate victory, with the freshman seeing her first ever collegiate action on Saturday afternoon.
Doubles Play
Messiah dropped the other two matches in doubles against York, dropping an 8-3 decision at No. 1 doubles before falling 8-1 in No. 3 doubles to go down 2-1 heading into singles.
Singles Play
Despite not being able to pick up any singles victories, Messiah had some notable performances.
Rachel Marcroft and
Rebekah Sheaffer continued their solid days on the court, with Marcroft claiming four games in her first set at No. 3 singles against Lauren Ostermann while Sheaffer won four games in set one at No. 5 singles against Chloe Doyle.
