GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision Saturday afternoon in their home opener at
Criste Courts to fall to 0-2 on the season.
Hannah Olson picked up her first career win as a Falcon at No. 6 singles against
Kaitlyn O'Neil (6-2, 6-3). The No. 1 doubles team of
Rebekah Adams and
Kasi Conjack also played well for Messiah, despite falling 8-7 (1) against the team of
Dasha Yakhnis and Sarah Malone.
Messiah will be back in action at
Lycoming College on Apr. 1 where they take on the Warriors at 3:00 p.m.
Doubles Play
Messiah dropped No. 2 doubles before a tough match at No. 1. Despite the great effort from
Kasi Conjack and
Rebekah Adams, they were not able to get the win, falling 8-7 (1). The Falcons went into singles play down 3-0 after falling in No. 3 doubles.
Singles Play
The Falcons won several games in singles play at the No. 1-5 spots, with
Rachel Marcroft and
Sarah Fleming both winning five games at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Unfortunately, neither were able to pick up the victory. Messiah was able to win the final match of the afternoon, as freshman
Hannah Olson won her first collegiate match against Wilke's Kaitlyn O'Neil (6-2, 6-3). However, Wilkes took the match 8-1.

Rebekah Sheaffer have both picked up their first collegiate victories over the first two matches of the season, with Sheaffer winning in No. 2 doubles play with
Rachel Marcroft in their first match against York (Pa.).
