Four Different Falcons Score in Shutout Victory

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The No. 10 Messiah field hockey team used four different goal scorers to earn a 4-0 shutout victory over the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Saturday afternoon. Messiah took a 1-0 lead late in the first quarter with a tally from Carrie Bair before adding scores off of penalty corners from Ashlyn Smith and Mallory Kline in the second quarter. A late insurance goal came from Lindsay McFeaters in the fourth quarter as the Falcons claimed their sixth MAC Commonwealth victory of the season.

The Falcons held a 23-11 advantage in shots in the match with Catie Brubaker making seven saves in the cage.

As mentioned, the Falcons improve to 6-0 in the conference while running their winning streak to nine-straight games. Messiah will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Stevenson University to take on the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m.

Action
Carrie Bair put the Falcons ahead on goal where she stole the ball outside of the circle, took a couple step to her left with possession and flicked the ball backhanded inside the right post to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons would never trail in the game. The Falcons extended the lead to 3-0 before the break with two penalty corner goals courtesy of Ashlyn Smith and Mallory Kline. Messiah would tack on their fourth and final goal via Lindsay McFeaters late in the fourth quarter, also by a penalty corner.

Stats
Ashlyn Smith tacked on her 12th goal of the season, while Mallory Kline tacked on her ninth of the year. For Bair and McFeaters, it was each their third goals of the year. Messiah out shot Alvernia 23-11 and doubled their penalty corners 12-6.
