Falcons End Regular Season Finale with Shutout Over Herons

GRANTHAM, PA. - The Messiah field hockey team pitched a shutout this afternoon in a win over the William Smith College Herons 4-0. Malcolm scored twice while Seubert and Kline scored via penalty strokes.

The Falcons will host the MAC Semifinals on Wednesday, November 2, when they host the winner of Widener and Albright which occurs on Monday, October 31. The Semifinal game at Anderson Field will be at 7:00 PM.

Action
The first quarter was scoreless as Messiah registered four shots but could not put one on the board. Makayla Malcolm changed that in the second with a backhanded flip in the bottom right corner of the goal to put the Falcons ahead 1-0. That lead held until the half as Messiah took that 1-0 advantage into the break. Malcolm struck again the third quarter to double the Falcons lead to 2-0. Messiah would tack on two additional goals via penalty strokes by Lauren Seubert and Mallory Kline to give the Falcons a 4-0 win improving their record to 14-2 on the season.

Stats
For Malcolm, it was her fifth and sixth goals of the year. Seubert tacked on her fifth goal on the year with the penalty stroke while for Kline, it was her tenth goal of the season. Messiah out shot William Smith 18-4 and held the penalty corner advantage 8-5. For Catie Brubaker, her record improved to 11-2 in goal for the Falcons.

The MAC Commonwealth Semifinals await the Falcons as they have secured the #1 seed in the tournament. They will host the winner of Widener and Albright on Wednesday, November 2, as Widener and Albright will compete in the MAC Commonwealth Play-In Game on Monday, October 31. The Falcons will host that semifinal game at 7:00 PM on Anderson Field on the aforementioned date, Wednesday, November 2.
