Falcons Bullied by Bulldogs, Lose 2-7

GRANTHAM, PA - The Messiah men's tennis team fell flat against the DeSales Bulldogs in a 2-7 loss on an overcast day on Criste Courts this afternoon. Chase Wilson made his mark on the day earning both of Messiah's wins on court one doubles as well as singles. Wilson teamed up with Connor Rose for the win in doubles.

Messiah will travel to Penn State Harrisburg on March 30, at 3:30 PM.

Doubles
Court two of Baker/Martin as well as court three of Sell/Niemi both lost winning a combined four games. Baker/Martin lost 3-8 while Sell/Niemi lost 1-8 to start the doubles matches. Messiah picked up a win on court one doubles with Wilson/Rose who battled through numerous momentum swings to earn a set tiebreak at 7-7. Wilson/Rose would go on to win the tiebreak 7-3 to take court one 8-7(3) to win one of the doubles points.

Singles
Courts two through six each lost in straight sets starting with Michael Sell losing 0-6, 1-6 on court three. The next matches to end were Jonathan Baker and Josh Gingerich on courts four and five. Baker lost 3-6, 3-6 and Gingerich lost 1-6, 5-7. Connor Rose lost on court two to Augie Citrone 5-7, 1-6 and then Ellis Martin lost on court six 2-6, 5-7 to make the score 7-1 in favor of DeSales. The final match to finish on the day was Chase Wilson on court one. Wilson dropped the first set 2-6 and found himself down early in the second set as well before rallying back to force a second set tiebreak. Wilson would win that tiebreak 7-4 to force a third set ten point tiebreak. Wilson would face another deficit early but once again rallied and took command of the tiebreak to win 10-6 to take down Danny Lynn. Wilson's final scoreline was 2-6, 7-6(4), (10-6).

DeSales would win the match 7-2.

The loss drops their record to 3-7 on the year. Messiah will travel to Penn State Harrisburg on March 30, for a match at 3:30. This is the final non-conference match before their MAC Commonwealth conference slate starts in April.
