HILTON HEAD, SC - The Messiah women's tennis team won a thriller against St. John Fisher College early on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons took two of the three doubles matches and won three of the singles matches to get their first win of spring break 5-4.
Doubles
The Falcons played well in doubles with each match being competitive and close throughout.
Conjack/
Tozzi won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while
Hannah Murray/Lee won at the No. 3 position 8-6.
Marcroft/
Sheaffer lost their match at No. 2 in a set tiebreak 7-8(5) to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead going into singles.
Singles
Kasi Conjack and
Rachel Marcroft each found themselves in a third set tiebreak to kick off the singles slate for the women.
Conjack dropped her match 6-3, 4-6, (6-10) at No. 1 while Marcroft prevailed in her tiebreak at No. 2 after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-4, (10-8).
Angela Tozzi and
Nicole Lee fell at No. 3 & 4 2-6, 4-6 and 6-7, 4-6 respectively. However, No. 5 & 6 came through for the Falcons to earn their first win of the season.
Hannah Olson won easily 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Rachel Dougherty clinched the match at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2.
