YORK, PA - The Messiah women's tennis team dropped their match today against the York College Spartans 2-7 on this blustery afternoon. The two wins came from the third doubles court of Murray/Fleming and then court five singles from
Nicole Lee.
The Falcons will travel to Eastern for their final match of the season at 1:00 PM.
Doubles
The Falcons kept it close in doubles, with two matches heading to decisive set tiebreaks tied at 7-all. Marcroft/Sheaffer lost their tiebreak 6-8 on court two while Murray/Fleming won their tiebreak 8-6 on court three. On court one, Conjack/Tozzi fell 4-8, giving the Spartans a 2-1 advantage into singles.
Singles
The Spartans cruised through singles, only dropping a set on court five, which ended up being Messiah's only win in singles play. Conjack lost 0-6, 0-6 on court one, Marcroft lost 2-6, 1-6 on court two, Sheaffer lost 3-6, 0-6 on court three and Tozzi fell 2-6, 1-6 on court four.
Nicole Lee was the only winner for the Falcons on court five, winning in a thrilling third set ten-point tiebreak 3-6, 7-6(0), (11-9). Murray then lost on court six 4-6, 2-6.
York would win the match 7-2.
Next
The loss drops the Falcons record to 5-11 and puts their conference record at 3-3. The Falcons will travel to Eastern on April 30, for a match at 1:00 PM. It will be the final match of the regular season.
In other news, Messiah has officially clinched the four seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Playoff Tournament and will travel to face the number one seeded Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchmen. That match will take place on Tuesday, May 3, with the timing of the match TBD. Messiah just played LVC less than a week ago and were swept 9-0.
