YORK, PA - The Messiah men's tennis team won their second conference match of the season against York College earlier today. The Falcons won all but one court in an 8-1 win over the Spartans.
Messiah swept the doubles matches and won every court except court four singles. Messiah will travel to Penn State Harrisburg on April 7, for a match at 3:30 PM.
Doubles
Messiah came out and swept the doubles but had to earn a win on each court. Wilson/Rose and E. Martin/Niemi each won 8-5 on courts one and three respectively. Baker/Gingerich won their match on court two 8-6.
Singles
Messiah followed the doubles matches with five additional wins in singles play.
Chase Wilson won on court one 6-4, 2-0 (retirement) while
Connor Rose won 6-1, 6-4 on court two.
Michael Sell won on court three in a ten-point tiebreak in lieu of a third set 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-6.
Jonathan Baker and
Ellis Martin won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-1 respectively. The lone loss for Messiah came on court four from
Josh Gingerich. Gingerich lost in a third set tiebreak 1-6, 6-1, (2-10).
