GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah men's track and field team competed in the Messiah Invitational at the Starry Athletic Complex on Saturday. The Falcons earned a first-place finish as a team, accumulating a total of 101 team points.
Derek Heisey competed well for Messiah, recording a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles (55.93s) as
Logan Horst registered a second-place finish as well, turning in a time of 3:58.98 in the 1500m event.
The best event of the day for Messiah was the 5000m as
Andrew Hutchinson recorded a first-place finish with a time of 15:15.85.
Noah Calisti placed second with a time of 15:17.16 while
Kyle Costello (15:17.97) and Alex Scheib (15:39.60) placed fourth and fifth overall, respectively. In addition,
Isaac Covert earned a seventh-place finish, crossing the line in 15:52.40. Overall, the Falcons had five runners place in the top ten finishers.
Frostburg State placed second overall as a team with 60.5 points, followed by Susquehanna (48.5) and McDaniel (38).
100m
Three Falcons competed in the 100m dash, led by a time of 11.36s by
Brendan Provan. Provan placed 12th overall in a field of 68 runners as
Zachary Mayro (11.45s) and
Joshua Horst (11.51s) also recorded strong finishes for Messiah.
200m
Aedan Wilkinson led the way for Messiah in the 200m event, earning an eighth-place finish with a time of 22.87s, earning the Falcons one team point.
Joshua Horst also competed in the event, recording a time of 24.38s.
800m
Connor Daudt and
Nathan Kimmel each turned in strong performances for the Falcons in the 800m. The two runners finished 12th and 13th overall, respectively, as Daudt crossed the line in 2:01.07 as Kimmel recorded a time of 2:01.13.
Josiah Moyer (2:01.60) and
Cassidy Hoffman (2:05.44) also turned in impressive performances for Messiah as well.
400m Hurdles
Derek Heisey issued an impressive performance in the 400m hurdles, turning in a second-place time of 55.93s. Heisey, competing in a field of 23 runners, earned Messiah eight points with the performance. In addition,
Adam Hostetler (61.26s) and
Joel Rhinehart (65.88s) both competed well for the Falcons.
1500m
Horst, as mentioned, recorded a strong second-place finish in the 1500m event. Horst (3:58.98) competed in the first heat, barely getting edged out by DeSales' Carl Tyce (3:58.41).
Andrew Hutchinson also recorded an impressive finish, placing fourth overall with a time of 4:02.69.
Josiah Moyer (4:05.89) and
Noah Calisti (4:08.09) turned in top-ten finishes as well as
Kyle Costello (4:09.43), and
Isaac Covert (4:12.89) all represented Messiah well in the event.
5000m
Two Falcons competed in the 5000m event as
Lance Kauffman impressed, notching an eighth-place finish with a time of 17:17.58.
Derek Guissanie also turned in a strong performance, registering a time of 17:33.94. The two runners competed in a field of 21 runners as Houghton's Zach Tucker topped all competition (16:36.48).
3000m Steeplechase
A total of five Falcons competed in the 3000m steeplechase event.
Josiah McCarthy issued the team-best finish, earning Messiah six team points with a time of 10:06.41. McCarthy placed third overall in a competitive field of 24 runners.
Silas Buckwalter (10:24.22) and
Josh Bauman (10:26.74) finished tenth and eleventh overall, respectively, as
Ray Truex (10:48.45) and
Jackson Hazen (12:04.76) also turned in strong performances as well.
4x100m Relay
A team of
Derek Heisey,
Joshua Horst,
Aedan Wilkinson, and
Brendan Provan represented Messiah in the 4x100 relay. The relay team placed third overall out of eight teams, turning in a time of 44.12s. Lebanon Valley's team placed first overall, recording a time of 43.61s.
4x400m Relay
A team of Wilkinson, Daudt,
Ryan Thurber, and Heisey represented Messiah in the 4x400m relay. The team recorded a strong performance, placing fourth overall with a time of 3:32.74. The Falcons performed well amongst a strong field of 16 relay teams.
High Jump
Heisey, in addition to his strong performance in the 400m hurdles event, earned the Falcons more team points in the high jump. Heisey notched a sixth-place finish, earning a top mark of 1.82m.
Ryan O'Donnell competed in the event as well, recording a mark of 1.67m.
What's Next
The Messiah men's track and field will have a split-squad effort on Friday, Apr. 15, competing at both the Greyhound Invitational (Moravian College) in Bethlehem, Pa., and the Larry Ellis Invitational (Princeton University) in Princeton, N. J.
