Men's Track & Field Finish MACs As Runner-Ups

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Messiah men's track and field team competed in Day Three of the 2022 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at DeSales University. The Falcons had plenty of medalists throughout the day, capturing a second-place finish with 147 team points. Widener University topped all competition, winning the MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship with 148 team points, eclipsing the Falcons by a single point.
 
Medal-Winners
As mentioned, Messiah turned in many medal-winning performances throughout the day. The most impressive event was the 1500m in which the Falcons secured Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. Brody Beiler topped all competition, earning the Gold with a winning time of 4:03.23. Logan Horst (4:04.52) and Andrew Hutchinson (4:04.57) followed with Silver and Bronze medals, respectively. Alex Scheib placed fourth overall with a time of 4:05.32 as Messiah captured the top-four finishes in the event. Messiah earned Gold in the other distance event of the day as well, the 10,000m. Kyle Costello registered the winning time, crossing the line in 15:46.56 as Horst (15:49.83) and Hutchinson (15:49.87) placed fourth and fifth overall, respectively. Noah Calisti registered an impressive finish as well, placing ninth with a time of 15:53.77.
 
Derek Heisey represented the Falcons well in the 400m hurdles event, earning himself a Bronze medal with a time of 54.81s. York's Derek Herr placed first in 54.04s.
 
Brendan Provan secured a Gold Medal in the triple jump event, earning the Falcons 10 team points. Provan issued a winning mark of 13.94m, topping the field of 21 total jumpers. Provan's mark is the eighth-best all-time mark in Messiah men's outdoor track and field history. Matthew Puleo impressed in the javelin throw, claiming a Bronze medal with a mark of 48.49m. Gavin Dunkerton competed in the throwing event as well, placing ninth overall with a mark of 40.26m. Josiah Zehr also was a medal-winner in a field event, grabbing Silver honors in the pole vault with a mark of 4.45m.
 
Notable Performances
John Steele represented the Falcons in the 100m hurdles finals, placing sixth overall, gaining Messiah four team points. Steele competed in a strong field, crossing the line in 16.77s. Zach Mayro ran in the 100m finals, securing a sixth-place finish as well, registering a time of 12.10s.
 
Beiler, after winning the 1500m, ran in the 800m finals, placing seventh overall with a time of 2:00.99. Scheib ran in the event as well, placing right behind Beiler in 2:04.64.
 
Overall, the Falcons competed well, earning an impressive team finish.
