GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah University women's basketball used a 24-point first quarter to jump in front of Penn St. Altoona and ultimately win 73-50.
Morgan Adams dominated with 23 points and nine rebounds.
Charlotte Milanesi did it all for the Falcons recording eight points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Dallas, Pa. for the Misericordia Tournament. The Falcons are set to play the Cougars of Misericordia University on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 8:00 p.m.
First Quarter
The Falcons opened the game strong with a 15-2 run for the first five minute that was led by eight points from
Morgan Adams. After a Lions bucket, the Falcons continued to score at will in the first quarter with a three from
Charlotte Milanesi and jumpers from Adams and
Liv Monturo to push the Falcons lead to 22-4. The Lions hit a couple of threes to reduce the deficit to 12, but another
Morgan Adams layup extended the lead back to 14 at the end of the first quarter. Adams finished the quarter with 10 points and four rebounds.
Second Quarter
The Falcons started the quarter with two buckets from
Liv Monturo and
Morgan Adams to extend the Messiah lead with 7:39 remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets in the middle of the quarter, highlighted by a
Sydney Hoffman steal and score with 6:03 remaining to give the Falcons a 30-13 lead. After some more back-and-forth play, the Falcons ended the half with a 10-2 run that was capped off by a
Chloe Milanesi jumper in the final minute of the half.
Third Quarter
After a dominant first half from the Falcons, the third quarter was more even. In the first four minutes of the quarter the Lions outscored the Falcons 8-6. For the Falcons,
Sydney Hoffman made two jumpers and
Chloe Milanesi added a bucket. The two teams both played good defense, not allowing a point for three minutes, until
Ainsley Bell broke the scoreless streak with a basket with 3:36 remaining in the quarter. After some more baskets from both teams the Falcons ended the quarter with
Charlotte Milanesi three and a layup from
Liv Monturo to end the quarter with a 57-34 lead.
Fourth Quarter
Both teams once again were more even to start the fourth quarter. The two teams opened the quarter with matching baskets, with
Morgan Adams adding three more points to her total. With 5:16 remaining in the game, the Falcons went on a quick 6-0 run that was capped off by two free throws from
Chloe Milanesi. The Falcons would add a couple more baskets from
Izzy Ipri and
Ainsley Bell before the Lions would end the game on an 8-0 run to put the final score at 73-50.
